As an actor, he's had a career spanning decades, creating iconic roles that forever changed the face of movies. As a director, he's created several modern American classics and earned numerous accolades, including several Academy Awards. Though he's most well-known for tough guy gunfighter roles, his films have a depth and emotional weight to them that go beyond simple genre work. His work has left a tremendous impact on cinema. In addition, he's also an accomplished jazz musician, the former mayor of the beautiful coastal town of Carmel, California, and the inspiration for the hit Gorillaz song "Clint Eastwood."

Eastwood As An Actor

Clint Eastwood is probably best known for his action roles throughout the sixties and the seventies, particularly for his turn as the amoral Man With No Name in Sergio Leone's spaghetti western films and his borderline-vigilante cop Dirty Harry Callahan. Clint Eastwood started out on the old western television series "Rawhide" when he accepted a job to shoot a western film in Spain for a thenhat western heroes of yesteryear, Eastwood's character was silent and walked a fine line between good and evil, with only the mildest sense of justice separating him from the men he ruthlessly guns down. The film, known as ''A Fistful Of Dollars,'' was a huge international hit and lead to two sequels: ''For A Few Dollars More'' and the acclaimed ''The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly''.  Eastwood also did a series of films in the seventies and eighties, starring as the takefor.   Beyond these iconic roles, Eastwood has acted in dozens of movies, portraying everything from haunted Secret Service agents to WW2 commandos to investigative journalists to washedknuckle brawlers with simian sidekicks. His best movies include ''The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Where Eagles Dare, In The Line Of Fire, The Eiger Sanction, Heartbreak Ridge'', and ''Kelly's Heroes''. 

Eastwood As a Director

Clint Eastwood's films tend toward darkly dramatic themes of loss, death, the past and redemption. He's most famous for his Academy Awardregarded recent film, ''Million Dollar Baby,'' features Eastwood as a boxing coach who agrees to train a young woman only to have tragedy befall them both. Other notable films include ''Bird'', his biography of jazzman Charlie Parker, ''Gran Torino,'' his tale of race relations and street violence, ''Invictus,'' a strange sports movie about hope and history, and the WW2 films ''Flags of Our Fathers'' and ''Letters From Iwo Jima.''
